Short Synopsis
A traitor, eh? These were the only words the veteran Athavale Silkwood said upon his arrest. Now he stands on trial and it is up to his niece, Galena, and his wife, Margeurite, to prove his innocence. But Athavale carries a dark secret that may just destroy everything…
Synopsis
Five hundred years of service in the army, and what is his reward? Betrayal. Charged with treason and torn from his nomadic family, Athavale Silkwood must face the vile workings of the High King, while his niece, Galena, and his wife, Margeurite, race against time to find an attorney willing to defend the infamous Athavale and enough proof of his innocence to convince a court already bribed to believe that he is guilty. How can they win against a tyrant, when the charge may not be entirely false?

If you love dragons, high fantasy, and past stories resurfacing to affect the present, perhaps you will love the Silkwood project. This story is in a different format than I usually write–a comic!
I never enjoyed comics or graphic novels until a few months ago. I thought they were simply incomparable to the magical prose in novels. Then my dad introduced me to a slew of comics that I ended up loving, and a few friends showed me these absolutely beautiful graphic novels. Now I enjoy certain comics and graphic novels, but a common problem I find is that comics are laden with inappropriate content 0r LGBTQ+. Obviously this is a problem.
My goal with the Silkwood project is to provide beautiful art and a compelling story, while keeping the content completely clean and God-honoring.
Now that I’ve introduced you to the plot and format, would you like to meet the main characters?
Meet the Stars!
Athavale
A scarred, gruff old dragon, Athavale doesn’t exactly give the impression of a doting uncle, but that’s exactly what he is beneath his prickly exterior. Though he has no children of his own, he’s a father figure to his niece–Galena–and a grandfather figure to his countless other nephews and nieces.
Despite his devotion to his family, Athavale is often gone on military escapades. He’s a karadsyr–basically, a leader of a section of the high king’s army consisting of ninety dragons. It’s the second highest rank in the army. He claims loyalty to the throne, but he and the high king aren’t exactly on good terms.
Marguerite
The wife of Athavale and unofficial leader of the Silkwood clan, Marguerite is a straightforward, honest dragoness with too many dragons to take care of to have time for nonsense. She avoids the high king and his court when possible, preferring her secluded meadow or the journeys her wayfaring family take.
Galena
When Galena’s parents died, it was Athavale and Marguerite who took her in and raised her as their own. She’s an odd one, even among the Silkwoods, but too observant for her own good. Some call her mad. Some call her brilliant. All agree that she makes a wicked cup of tea.
Asa Skywing
Asa doesn’t mince words, and he doesn’t care for strangers and their business, either. He was once a talented young dragon with a bright future. He still is, but he’s a lot less sunshiny than that description suggests.
A Little Help?
Up until now I have been referring to this story as the Silkwood project, but that is because I currently do not have a name for it. It’s not that I have a lack of titles–rather, I have way too many. You can help! Just fill out this form to let me know which title is your favorite, or suggest a title of your own. I have so many ideas, but I simply cannot decide without a little help.
In Conclusion
And that, my friends, is the Silkwood project. Please vote for a title to help this comic come to life! Every vote is one step closer to a title, and it’s fun to choose your favorite!
As for progress, I’ve completed a draft of the script for the comic and am currently polishing it up. The artist I’m working with, The Fanciful Fox, is developing character sketches and helping my indecisive self choose an art style that will be fast and easy for her to draw, yet as enchanting as the dreams this story was born of.
I’ll be posting more announcements regarding this comic and Sons of Starborn as time goes on. Keep an eye out for updates! Thank you for supporting me on my journey and watching the world of Sons of Starborn come to life.
God bless,
Astor
